About Our Program
The City of Hamilton Animal Services greatly appreciates the help of volunteers who are willing, enthusiastic, and excited to work with the furry friends in our care and enrich our program! We have a volunteer program open for seven volunteers at this time to help with the enrichment of the animals in our shelter.

Volunteer Opportunities
Animal Enrichment
Animal enrichment with dogs, cats and other domestic animals. You will be socializing with the dogs, cats, and other animals in our shelter. Responsibilities would include: dog-walking, playing with cats, grooming the animals, etc.
Poster Delivery
Delivering found posters in areas where an animal is found. This will be a physically exerting position where volunteers will be required to have route knowledge and walk great distances to deliver found posters.
Researcher
Searching social media and websites (i.e. Kijiji, Craigslist, newspapers) to help match found animals with lost reports. This position will be less physical and more of a desk job within the office. The volunteer will be required to work alongside and communicate with the poster deliverers.
Animal Transport
Transporting animals in your personal vehicle to and from the shelter for spay/neuter at clinics inside and outside of Hamilton. For this position you will need a valid driver's license, good time management, and route knowledge to ensure the animals and supplies are on time.
Public Education
Volunteers will be attending public events with Animal Services staff to answer questions and educate the public about Hamilton Animal Services and Responsible Animal Ownership. Volunteers will be trained in an education course for the first part of their volunteering to prepare them for this position. Volunteers in this position will be required to have a flexible schedule.
Social Media Content Creator
This position will require the volunteer to run the Hamilton Animal Services instagram page, updating it weekly/monthly. The volunteer should have experience using instagram and have creative ideas and good photography skills so as to promote the animals at our shelter and raise awareness.
